Theairlterserviceindicatorisanormallyopen(N.O.)vacuumactuatedswitch
attachedtotheairlterbody(Figure251).Ahighvacuumconditionoccurs
whentheengineisrunningandtheairlterelementsbecomerestricted,closing
theswitch.
Testing
TheairlterserviceindicatoranditscircuitwiringcanbetestedasaTEC
inputusingtheInfoCenterDisplay(seeInfoCenterDisplay(page6–9)).If
testingdeterminesthattheswitchandcircuitwiringarenotfunctioningcorrectly,
proceedwiththefollowingtestprocedure:
1.MakesurekeyswitchisOFF .Removekeyfromkeyswitch.
2.Disconnecttheserviceindicatorfromthewiringharnessandremove
(unscrew)serviceindicatorfromaircleanerassembly.
3.Checkthecontinuityoftheserviceindicatorbyconnectingamultimeter
(ohmssetting)acrosstheindicatorterminals.
4.Thereshouldbenocontinuity(inniteresistance)betweentheservice
indicatorterminals.
5.Connectahandoperatedvacuumpumptotheswitchttingandapply25in.
Hg(−84bar)ofvacuumtoclosetheswitch.Thereshouldbecontinuity(zero
resistance)betweentheserviceindicatorterminals.
6.Iftestingdeterminesthatserviceindicatorisfaulty,replacetheindicator.
7.Installtheserviceindicatorandconnecttheindicatortothemachinewiring
harness(seeAirFilter(page4–11)).
8.Iftheserviceindicatortestscorrectlyandacircuitproblemstillexists,check
thewireharness(seeAppendixA(pageA–1)).
