Mostmachinefunctionsoperateonatypical12VDCsystem.Thesecond
systemexiststooperatetheelectriccoolingfansandis24VDC.
12VoltSystem
Engineelectricalcomponents,machineoperationswitches,hydraulicsolenoid
coils,themachineT oroelectroniccontrollers(TECs),theYanmarengineEngine
ControlUnit(ECU)andtheInfoCenterdisplayareallincludedinthe12VDC
system.Two12Voltbatterieslocatedattherearofthemachineareconnected
togetherinparalleltosupportthe12Voltelectricalsystem.The12Voltsystemis
chargedbyan80Amp12voltalternatordrivenbyasinglerowV-beltmounted
totheengine.
Circuitprotectionforthe12VDCsystemincludesavarietyoffuseslocatedinthe
frontorrearpowercentersandapairoffusiblelinksintegratedintothestarter
circuitwiring.AdditionalfusesarelocatedinthecabheadlinerofGroundsmaster
5910machines.
The12Voltsystemusesthevehicleframeasaground.Abattery-disconnect
switchisincludedonthemachinewhichshouldbeusedtodisconnectthe
12VDCand24VDCsystemcomponentsfromtheelectricalpowersupply
topreventcomponentdamageorunexpectedcomponentoperationwhen
performingservice.

24VoltSystem
Groundsmaster5900/5910machinesincludetwo12Voltbatterieslocatedat
therearofthemachinethatareconnectedtogetherinseriestosupportthe
24Voltcoolingfancircuit.The24Voltsystemischargedbyan105Amp24
Voltalternatormountedtothemachineframe.The24Voltalternatorisdriven
byapulleyattachedtotheenginecrankshaftandamulti-rowV-belt.Circuit
protectionforthe24VDCsystemincludesapairoffuseslocatedontherear
powercenter.
The24VoltsystemisanisolatedsystemsothevehicleframeISNOTusedas
agroundinthe24voltsystem.Abattery-disconnectswitchisincludedonthe
machinewhichshouldbeusedtodisconnectthe12VDCand24VDCsystem
componentsfromtheelectricalpowersupplytopreventcomponentdamageor
unexpectedcomponentoperationwhenperformingservice.
Groundsmaster5900/5910machinesincludetwo(2)panelsofcoolingfans.One
panelcoolstheradiatorandtheothercoolsthehydraulicoilcooler.Eachpanel
includestwo(2)24voltcoolingfansoperatingatthesamespeedanddirection.
Allfourcoolingfansareidentical.
Eachofthefour(4)fanassembliesincludethe24VDCfanmotoranda12VDC
fancontroller.Thecoolingfanmotorsreceivepowerfromthe24Voltsystem
contactor.Usinginputsfromthecoolanttemperaturesenderandthehydraulic
oiltemperaturesender,themasterTECworkswiththeinternalfancontrollersas
necessarytocontrolthefanspeedanddirection.Inreturn,thefancontrollers
provideahardwiredfaultsignalusedasaninputtothemasterTECasthe
coolingfansarenotontheCAN-bussystem(seeCAN−busCommunications
(page6–8)).
