Groundsmaster5900/5910machinesusetwo(2)separateelectricalsystems.
Mostmachinefunctionsoperateonatypical12VDCsystem.Two12Volt
batterieslocatedattherearofthemachineareconnectedtogetherinparallelto
supportthe12Voltelectricalsystem.Thesecondsystemexiststooperatethe
electriccoolingfansandis24VDC.Two12Voltbatterieslocatedattherearof
themachineareconnectedtogetherinseriestosupportthe24Voltcoolingfan
circuit.SeeElectricalSystemOperation(page6–7)foradditionalinformation.
BatteryStorage
Ifthemachinewillbestoredformorethan30days:
1.Removethebatteriesandchargethemfully(seeBatteryService(page
6–139)).
2.Eitherstorebatteriesonashelforonthemachine.
3.Leavecablesdisconnectedifthebatteriesarestoredonthemachine.
4.Storebatteriesinacoolatmospheretoavoidquickdeteriorationofthe
batterycharge.
5.Tohelppreventthebatteriesfromfreezing,makesuretheyarefullycharged
(seeBatteryService(page6–139)).
BatteryCare
1.Batteryelectrolytelevelmustbeproperlymaintained.Thetopofthebattery
mustbekeptclean.lfthemachineisstoredinalocationwheretemperatures
areextremelyhigh,thebatterywilldischargemorerapidlythanifthemachine
isstoredinalocationwheretemperaturesarecool.
WARNING
Wearsafetygogglesandrubbergloveswhenworkingwith
electrolyte.Chargebatteryinawellventilatedplacesogasses
producedwhilechargingcandissipate.Sincethegasesare
explosive,keepopenamesandelectricalsparksawayfrom
thebattery;donotsmoke.Nauseamayresultifthegasesare
inhaled.Unplugchargerfromelectricaloutletbeforeconnectingor
disconnectingchargerleadstoorfrombatteryposts.
2.Checkbatteryconditionweekly,afterevery50hoursofoperationorevery30
daysifmachineisinstorage.Keepterminalsandentirebatterycaseclean
becauseadirtybatterywilldischargeslowly.
A.Cleanbatterybywashingentirecasewithasolutionofbakingsodaand
water.Rinsewithclearwater.
B.CoatbatterypostsandcableconnectorswithBatteryT erminalProtector
(ToroPartNo.107−0392)orpetroleumjellytopreventcorrosion.
3.Batterycablesmustbetightonterminalstoprovidegoodelectricalcontact.
