1.Makesurehydraulicoilisatnormaloperatingtemperature(54to66ºC(130
to150ºF)).
2.Parkmachineonalevelsurface,lowercuttingdecksfully,disengagePTO,
engageparkingbrakeandstopengine.Removekeyfromkeyswitch.
3.Turnthesteeringwheelsothesteeringcylinderrodofthecylindertobe
testedisfullyextended.
4.Thoroughlycleantheareaaroundthehydraulichoseattherodendofthe
steeringcylindertobetested.

Installasteelpluginthedisconnectedhose.
6.Removeallhydraulicoilfromdrainpan.Makesurethatemptydrainpan
remainsundertheopenttingofthesteeringcylinder.
7.Withtheengineoff,turnthesteeringwheelinthesamedirectionneeded
toextendthecylinder.Observetheopenttingontheextendedsteering
cylinderasthesteeringwheelisturned.Ifoilcomesoutofthettingwhile
turningthesteeringwheel,thesteeringcylinderhasinternalleakageand
mustberepairedorreplaced(seeSteeringCylinderService(page5–141)).
Checkdrainpanforanyevidenceofoilthatwouldindicatecylinderleakage.
8.Aftertestingiscompleted,removeplugfromthehydraulichose.Connect
hosetothesteeringcylindertting.
9.Repeatsteeringcylinderinternalleakagetestforothersteeringcylinderif
necessary.
10.Ifasteeringproblemexistsandthesteeringcylinderstestedacceptably,the
steeringcontrolvalverequiresservice(seeSteeringControlValveService
(Formachinesserialnumberbelow40345000)(page5–137)).
11.Aftertestingiscompleted,checkoillevelinhydraulicreservoirandadjustif
needed.
