SERVICES
The range of services available on the Alcatel OmniPCX Office Internet access is linked to the hardware
and purchased software keys. It is made up of two main offers: a "Basic" offer with shared Internet ac-
cess for all company users, and a "Full" service offer combining the "basic" offer and some extra servi-
ces.
With the "Basic" offer, Alcatel OmniPCX Office provides users with fast access to the resources of the
Internet world. It allows all users of the company to access the Internet simultaneously by using a single
connection account. The functionalities associated with this offer are the LAN functions, integrated fi-
rewall protection and NAT.
With the "Full", Alcatel OmniPCX Office provides users with access to the resources of the Internet
world, together with additional functionalities such as the Web cache, access control, electronic mes-
saging and VPN.
All the available services are:
- Internet access: the system offers several methods of connection to the Internet Access Provider
(IAP):
Connection on demand: connection to the IAP is provided in accordance with user demands
(Internet access, sending electronic messages, etc...). It is disconnected when there is no more
traffic. The speed chosen can be static (64 Kbps, 128 Kbps) or dynamic (bandwidth on demand
between 64 and 128 Kbps).
Connection on demand with call-back service ("Call-back"): the IAP sends a signal to Al-
catel OmniPCX Office that establishes the connection by return. This mechanism is validated
by virtue of the ISDN caller identification where only authorised numbers can be called back.
This type of connection must be used as part of the implementation of VPN services on an ISDN
link (for more details, refer to the "VPN" section).
- Permanent connection: the link to the IAP is permanent.
The authentication protocols used are PAP/CHAP (ISDN and DSL modem). Similar to the case of
the Router, if OmniPCX Office does not communicate directly with the IAP, there is no need for
authentication.
- Connection protocol:
•ISDN: MPPP
DSL modem: PPTP or PPPoE
- LAN to LAN routing: OmniPCX Office communicates with the IAP via the external Router. The
protocol used depends on the external Router.
- LAN functions : integrated DNS and DHCP server.
- NAT: address translation is used to internally store private IP addresses and to use only one single
public address.
- Protection by integrated firewall: the integrated packet filtering and IP address translation func-
