REMOTE CONTROL
SWITCH TESTS
Key Switch Test
Refer to Wiring Diagrams at back of manual.
Use an ohmmeter or a continuity light to test key
switch operation. Replace switch if re sults are
incorrect with any of the following tests.
IMPORTANT: Disconnect ba ttery and ke y
switch wiring before proceeding with the following
tests.
Stop/Ground Terminals (M) – Conn ect meter
between the two “M” terminals. Me ter mu st ind i-
cate NO continuity at START or ON.
Turn key switch OFF. Meter must indicate continu-
ity.
Accessory Terminal (A) – Mak e sure the ke y
switch is OFF. Connect the ohmmeter or continu-
ity light between terminals “B” (battery) an d “A”
(accessory) of key switch. Meter must indicate NO
continuity.
Turn switch ON. Meter must indicate continuity.
Turn key switch to START. Meter must continue to
indicate continuity.
Starter Terminal (S) – Hold key switch at START.
Connect meter between terminal “B” and terminal
“S.” Meter should indicate continuity.
IMPORTANT: The cho ke function or terminal
“C” of the key switch is NOT used.
Neutral Start Circuit Test
Use an ohmmeter or con tinuity light to test the
continuity of th e circu it while p ositioning t he
remote control in NEUTRAL, FOR WARD, a nd
REVERSE.
IMPORTANT: Turn propeller shaft or disconnect
shift cab le to allo w proper re mote cont rol shif t
action while o utboard is not run ning. Disconnect
the instrument h arness connector from the key
switch harness connector.
Make sure the remote contro l han dle is in NEU-
TRAL. Connect mete r between termina l 5
(red/purple wire) a nd terminal 2 (yellow/red wire).
Turn the key switch to START. Meter must indicate
continuity.
Move the remote con trol han dle to FOR WARD
and turn the key swit ch t o ST ART. Meter must
NOT indicate continuity.
Move the remote control handle to REVERSE and
turn the key switch to START. Meter must NOT
indicate continuity.
IMPORTANT: Reconnect shift cable and instru-
ment harness co nnector to key switch harness
connector.
