3.1.1 Configuration
This section contains the Configuration General Syntax Error messages.
Error Message Invalid IP address. IP address should be in a.b.c.d format where
range for a, b, c, and d is 1 - 255.
Explanation User input an IP address with wrong format.
Recommended Action IP address should be in a.b.c.d format where range for a, b, c,
and d is 1 - 255.
Error Message Mask must have contiguous ones.
Explanation User input an IP subnet mask that does not have contiguous
ones in binary. For example, 255.255.255.129, the decimal 129
is 10000001 in binary, it’s not a contiguous ones number.
Recommended Action Use the correct IP subnet mask format. The subnet mask should
have contiguous ones in binary. For example, 255.255.255.128
or 255.255.255.192 or 255.255.255.224.
Error Message Subnet mask must have contiguous ones and be no longer than
30 bits.
Explanation User input an IP subnet mask tht does not have contiguous ones
in binary or the mask has more than 30 ones in binary.
a. 255.255.255.129, the decimal 129 is 10000001 in binary, it’s
not a contiguous ones number.
b. 255.255.255.254 in binary has 31 ones.
Recommended Action a. The subnet mask should have contiguous ones in binary.
For example, 255.255.255.128 or 255.255.255.192 or
255.255.255.224.
b. The total ones of subnet should not exceed 30 bits. For
example, 255.255.255.252 has 30 contiguous ones.
