Locator Stand
The locator stand provides a method to secure the precision locator to a specific location and
provides a surface for clamping the pallet. The stand is supplied in a standard version (shown
in Figure 3-60 and Figure 5-43), which is mounted on the standard MM LITE stand assembly
to the beams or on any other surface. The alternate version of the stand (shown in Figure 5-44)
is designed to mount to custom fixturing on a plate only. All versions of the stand are available
in versions that support single or multiple precision locators.
When placing a large vertical load on the pallet in the precision locator, locate the stand
directly above a vertical support member (leg) for the transport system.
Pallet
The pallet is used to carry the payload and provides features for precision locating that align
with the pins in the rocker arms on the precision locator. The pallet replaces the top plate on
the standard glide puck. MagneMotion sells a standard pallet (see Figure 4-54, Precision
Locator Glide Puck with Basic Pallet Mechanical Drawing, on page 204).
Information is provided to design and install their custom pallets. In each case, the pallet
replaces the standard top plate of the puck to allow clamping by the arms on the locator (see
Figure 1-6 on page 43). The pallet always has a pair of replaceable skis that are attached to its
bottom surface to allow it to ride on the MagneMover LITE motor rails.
Pallet Design
Basic pallet design guidelines and considerations (see Figure 3-61):
• Include the bushing mount location tolerances in the pallet-to-pallet positional repeat-
ability tolerance stack-up.
• Include the plate thickness tolerance in the pallet-to-pallet height repeatability toler-
ance stack-up.
• Material: Aluminum (alternate material allowed per MagneMotion approval).
• Thickness: 8.0 mm [0.315 in] (in the area around the bushings, see Figure 3-61).
• Finish: Hard anodize per MIL-A-8625, TYPE III – all dimensions are after plating.
• Vertical load on the pallet while clamped in the precision locator is limited only by the
physical properties of the materials of the pallet and stand and not by the locating
mechanism.
