5 PC Interface Board
Rev. 1.9 e
2 Product Overview

Laser Control
• The female D-SUB laser connector at the RTC
®
5
slot cover has 15 pins (the RTC
®
4’s laser
connector, on the other hand, has 9 pins). The
pinouts are not jumper-configurable.
– The RTC
®
5 doesn’t require jumpers X6 and X7
of the RTC
®
4 because all signals are already
available at the RTC
®
5 laser connector.
– The voltage range of the analog outputs is
always 0…10 V (0 V … 2.56 V isn’t supported;
the RTC
®
4’s jumper X3 doesn’t exist on the
RTC
®
5).
• If you want to connect a laser to the RTC
®
5 via
the same (9-pin) cable that you previously used
with the RTC
®
4, then you’ll need an adapter with
a 9-pin female D-SUB connector (available from
SCANLAB).
– For use of the laser adapter from SCANLAB (see
page 48), two jumpers are provided for config-
uring the pin-outs (JP1 corresponds to jumper
X7 of the RTC
®
4, JP2 corresponds to jumper X6
of the RTC
®
4).
• The signal levels of the laser control signals are no
longer determined by configuring jumpers.
Instead, they can/must be software-configured
(see set_laser_control).
– Jumper X10 of the RTC
®
4 doesn’t exist on the
RTC
®
5.
EXTENSION 1 Connector
•The RTC
®
5’s EXTENSION 1 connector is – except
for the additionally provided signals at pins 33-35
– identical to the EXTENSION 1 connector of the
RTC
®
4 (see page 49).
•With the RTC
®
5 (unlike the RTC
®
4), the level of all
output signals at the EXTENSION 1 connector can
be configured for 5 V or 3.3 V via a jumper (see
page 49).
EXTENSION 2 Connector
• The RTC
®
4’s EXTENSION 2 connector doesn’t
exist on the RTC
®
5. Accordingly, no I/O extension
board can be attached to the RTC
®
5.
• The RTC
®
5’s EXTENSION 2 connector is – except
for the optional LATCH signal at pin 17 – identical
to the LASER EXTENSION connector of the RTC
®
4
(see page 50).
– The RTC
®
5 provides jumpers JP2-JP8 for con-
figuring pin-outs (these jumpers are equivalent
to jumpers X8 and X9 of the RTC
®
4) (also see
page 50).
MARKING ON THE FLY Connector
• The RTC
®
5’s MARKING ON THE FLY connector is
identical to the RTC
®
4’s MARKING ON THE FLY
connector (see page 51).
Other Connectors
• PCI bus requirements are identical to those of the
RTC
®
4.
• PCI-Express, PC/104-Plus and PCIe/104 versions
are only available for the RTC
®
5, a standalone
version is currently only available for the RTC
®
4.
• The following interfaces only exist on the RTC
®
5:
– MASTER and SLAVE (see page 40)
– RS232 (see page 51)
– McBSP / I2C (see page 52)
– STEPPER MOTOR (see page 53)
