Calculation of Switching Capacity and Interface Capacity of S9306 or S9312
l Calculation of switching capacity
– Switching capacity of S9306 and S9312
Switching capacity = Switching capacity of an SRU x Number of SRUs
– Switching capacity of S9303
The unidirectional forwarding speed of each slot is 120 Gbit/s.
The switching capacity is 720 Gbit/s (120 x 3 x 2). Here, 3 indicates the number of slots
in the S9303 and 2 indicates bidirectional forwarding.
NOTE
The S9303 does not have a switching fabric, and packets are forwarded through LPUs. Therefore,
the preceding formula is not applicable to the S9303.
l Calculation of interface capacity
The interface capacity of the S9300 is calculated through the following formula:
Interface capacity = Maximum interface rate x Density of interfaces
– The maximum interface rate is the maximum transmission rate on each interface.
– The density of interfaces is the number of a certain type of interfaces supported by the
entire equipment.
The following is an example:
Each LPU of the S9300 supports 48 GE interfaces.
The S9312 has 12 LPU slots and each LPU provides 48 GE interfaces. Therefore, the S9312
provides totally 576 GE interfaces, that is, the interface density is 576. The transmission
