Input Selection & Level Control Section Troubleshooting
A10 Attenuator B
There are two different A10 Attenuator B assemblies used in the N9038A; one
for the Option 503, 508, and 526 instruments and one for the Option 544
instruments. While the overall amount of attenuation is the same for all
instruments, the distribution of the attenuator sections within the attenuators
is not quite the same. The Option 503, 508, and 526 A10 Attenuator B has a
total of 66 dB of attenuation, while the Option 544 attenuator has only 60 dB.
Unlike the A9 Attenuator A, the A10 Attenuator B assembly has just one
function, that of a variable attenuator, as seen in Figure 4-11 and Figure 4-12.
This functionality will be verified with the procedure in this section.

Verifying The A10 Attenuator B Functionality:
1. Remove the instrument dress cover (MP24), top brace (MP10), and right
side outer (MP5). Refer to Chapter 18, “Assembly Replacement
Procedures.” for instructions on removing these covers.
2. Referring to Figure 4-4 or Figure 4-5, remove W29 and W30 from A10
Attenuator B.
3. Turn the instrument on and allow it to complete its boot up process,
ignoring any error messages.
