MDP-621/641/640 Chapter 5
Operation manual Basic operation
0093161022-06 5-7
A ship’s profile shown in the center of the compass display indicates own ship’s course and a pink arrow
points the waypoint bearing. The XTE bar graph indicates the course deviation and a set of triangles
(three for each direction) is a steering indicator. Black triangles indicate the direction to which the ship is
steered to minimize the course deviation. One of the black triangles means deviating of 0.33 (nm, sm or
km). It displays even 1.0 (nm, sm or km) or less. When 1.0 (nm, sm or km) is exceeded, it becomes a
display like the maximum.
The Highway display provides a quick reference of the navigation to determine whether the own ship is
holding the course. The width of the fairway is set by using the XTE AREA soft menu in Navigation Data
operation in Chapter 9.
If the waypoint is located far outer than 4 (nm, sm or km), the course length shown on the screen is set to
4 (nm, sm or km). Every 2 (nm, sm or km) of the ships advancement the ship’s profile mark is reset to the
original position, providing a 4 (nm, sm or km) forward range.
When the ship gets to the point less than 4 (nm, sm or km) to the waypoint, the course length is
accordingly shortened to, say, 1 (nm, sm, km). When the distance to the waypoint falls less than 1 (nm,
sm, km) the waypoint mark starts to move toward the ship, showing the waypoint is near.
