Inatable Door Seal System
On airplanes equipped with the crew door inatable door seal system, when
the master switch is ON and a crew door handle is moved to the CLOSED
position, the door seal inates, and remains inated, until the door handle
is moved to the OPEN position. When the door is closed and the seal is
inated, the seal reduces inltration of exterior noise into the cabin, keeps
precipitation from entering, and acts as a weather-stripping gasket to help
maintain cabin environmental control. Whether the master switch is ON or
OFF, when the crew door handle is moved to the OPEN position, the inatable
seal deates and no longer seals the crew door. While the inatable seal is
deated, the feather seal keeps precipitation from entering the cabin.
The inatable crew door seal is designed to work when cabin temperatures
are above approximately 0°F. If the airplane has been parked or operated at
temperatures where the cabin is below 0°F, a thermal switch will open and
prevent the compressor from operating. However, since the thermal switch
is located in the cabin, as long as the cabin environment is maintained at a
temperature above approximately 0°F, the thermal switch will remain closed
and the door seal compressor will operate when activated. The thermal
switch protects the compressor diaphragm, motor, and components from
damage due to operation with frozen or brittle parts. If, after the crew door
seals are inated, the temperature drops below 0°F, the seals will remain
inated until pressure is released from them, such as by opening a door.
The
compressor will not activate until the thermal switch closes again.
CABIN WINDOWS
The airplane is equipped with a two-piece acrylic windshield reinforced with
a metal center strip. The two crew door windows are constructed of clear
polycarbonate. The pilot’s door contains a storm window, which can be
opened. The six aft cabin windows and cargo/aft passenger door windows are
constructed of grey tinted polycarbonate.
NOTE: If the inatable seal is not in operation during ight, the feather
seal alone will not be as effective as the inatable crew seal at keeping out
noise, precipitation, and the external climate.
