CHECKLIST PROCEDURES
BEFORE STARTING
Note the position of the propeller blades:
1. If Feathered:
Propeller Lever
.............................................................................FEATHER
Power Lever
......................................................................................... IDLE
2. If Flat Pitch:
Propeller Lever
............................................................................ MAX RPM
Power Lever
......................DO NOT MOVE from engine shutdown position
STARTING
1. Perform normal starting procedures.
2. If the propeller is in at pitch before starting, the propeller blades will
be held in the at pitch position by the start-locks with the power lever
positioned aft of the IDLE position. The power lever must be moved slightly
further aft into REVERSE to unlatch the blades before moving the power
lever forward to IDLE.
3. If the propeller is feathered and the propeller lever is in the FEATHER
position, perform normal starting procedures.
CAUTION: If the propeller is feathered and the propeller control is in the
forward position when the engine is started, the aircraft may surge forward
uncontrolled as the propeller blades move from feathered to at pitch (if
the airplane is a oatplane version and on the water).
CAUTION: If the power lever is moved forward out of BETA and into the
forward thrust range with the start locks still engaged, damage to the lock
mechanisms may occur.
