FD
FD/AP (Flight Director / Autopilot)
When the Autopilot Master Switch is set to the
FD/AP position and a roll mode (HDG, NAV,
NAV APR, REV, REV APR, NAV GPSS) AND
pitch mode (ALT, VS) are selected (as shown
in “Figure S1-6”), the autopilot will steer
the aircraft toward the Steering Command
Bars, until the ARS is tucked into them. The
FD bars provides a visual indication of how
accurately the autopilot is tracking its own roll
and pitch commands.
FD (Flight Director)
If the Autopilot is engaged and
Autopilot Master Switch is set to
the FD position, an audible alert
will sound, the roll servo and pitch
servo will disengage, and the FD
annunciation will appear on the
Remote Annunciator (as shown in
“Multiple Modes” of “Figure S1-9”)
to acknowledge that the FD mode
is engaged. The pilot must steer
the aircraft toward the Steering
Command Bars, until the ARS is
tucked into them. The FD provides
a visual indication of how accurately
the pilot is tracking the autopilot’s roll
and pitch commands. A typical view
of the FD with the FD mode engaged
is shown in “Figure S1-7.”
