Before using the system it is necessary to define the logical printers on all LP Clients and
on the PRISMA Print Servers.

6.19.1 Using PRISMAproduction LP
The standard Linux LP (line printer) command set "lpr, lpq, lprm and lpc" has been imple-
mented for the PRISMA spool. All these commands are supported by the PRISMA LP dae-
mon on the Caldera Linux platform.
Note: The LINUX manual pages for lp (e.g. man lp or man lpr) are only valid, if the
PRISMA LP package is not installed. Please follow this documentation if PRISMA
LP is installed.
With the commands of the LP Package you can create print jobs, display the spool status
of these jobs and cancel them from a remote computer over the network.
The PRISMA LP software consists of the following set of programs:
lpr - line printer request
Create print jobs
lprm- line printer remove
Delete print jobs from the PRISMA printing spool
lpq - line printer queue
Show information about the jobs in the PRISMA spool
lpc - line printer control
Control the PRISMA LP printing environment
lpd - line printer daemon
Background process waiting for a client to start the printing sequence.
An lpr command is used to send data for printing to a specific printer queue. These queues
are defined in the lp.ini file on the PRISMAproduction host. The parameters in this file are
combined with a default ticket. The printer queues would be used to store data for sending
to a set of printers connected in some way to the computer. On a PRISMAproduction ma-
chine, on the other hand, the queues are all connected to the PRISMAproduction spool.
The different queues define different sets of printing parameters which can be submittetd
to the PRISMAproduction spool when the print job is being created. For this reason only a
