6.3 Job Queues
Select ’Configuration’ -> ’Job queues’ to configure the job queues to be used in this ODS
network. You go via the configuration interface to assign the job queues to the printers.
Column Titels
’Job queues’ menu and toolbar see ’Editing configuration data’ on page 138.
6.4 Cluster
A cluster is a set of units of the same type. Once grouped in this way, the units can be ad-
dressed by way of a single name. A printer cluster is a group of printers.
Each printer can belong to several clusters. A printer is addressed either by the cluster
name or directly by the printer name.
The names of clusters are defined in the cluster table. The cluster type is ‘printer’ in the cur-
rent version, in other words, only printer clusters can be defined at the present time.
If a cluster name is specified with a print job, the system picks from the cluster the printer
that can execute the job. The selection can be based on factors such as the kind of paper
currently loaded in the printer, what job class the printer is currently running, etc. If more
than one printer would be able to run the job, load balancing factors come into play – i.e.
the jobs is submitted to the printer which has least to do.
A few examples of clusters:
LB (load balancing) clusters: printers of the same type that are selected on the basis of their
workload.
300 DPI clusters: 300 dpi printers of various types
Number This is the number with which the job class is identified in other inter-
faces. The job class must be a number between 1 and 999.
Description The description is a text of your choice that briefly profiles the class,
e.g. “print at night”.
Lock jobs after printing When this column is enabled, a job in this class will remain in the list
of active jobs until it is explicitly deleted. It receives the status 'fin-
ished-locked'. This function can be used for test-printing – the results
can be checked before the fullrun is printed.
If ’Lock jobs after printing’ (=Hold) is active for a job queue, this will be
displayed in the PJM job properties dialog and in the filter dialog.
