Oscilloscope Reference Active probes
Active probes
Active voltage probes often contain preampliers that provide high resistance and low capacitance at the
probe tip. Some active voltage probes contain differential ampliers that provide high Common Mode
Rejection Ra
tio (CMRR).
Active current probes often contain Hall-effect sensors that extend the probe bandwidth down to DC.
Many active probes, especially high frequency probes, can drive a 50 instrument input.
Amplitude
This voltage measurement is the high value minus the low value measured over the entire waveform
or gated region:
Amplitude = High Low
Analog oscilloscope sweeps
Area
Area is a voltage-over-time measurement. The measurement is the area over the entire waveform or gated
reg
ion expressed in volt-seconds. The area above the common reference point is positive while the area
below the common reference point is negative.
