Signal Level Meter
Overview
The Frequency Domain Reectometer (FDR) Measurement is an optional feature of the 180
DSP. If you do not have this option, call Trilithic at (800) 344-2412 in order to purchase an
option activation code and start using this option today.
To view the installed functions on your instrument, see Section II: Setup Menu, Chapter 2:
Instrument Information.
Select the FDR icon as shown in the image
to the right to perform an FDR measurement
using the 180 DSP.
The FDR Measurement provides a
simple, convenient and accurate tool for
determining the distance to cable faults.
This option works by sending a sweep
into the cable and analyzing the complex
reected wave to determine the distance
to various sources of reection (opens,
shorts, splitters, etc.). The reecting events
are indicated on an amplitude versus distance display, and markers are used to identify the
distance to the source of the reection, and the return loss at that point.
The Frequency Reectometer screen will be displayed as shown in the images below. This
screen displays a measurement trace along with distances to faults and the level at each fault.
Use the Zoom softkey to change the distance that is displayed on the measurement trace.
