6.1 Overview
This chapter provides a description of LP MDU, MDU, and modular ONT functional
hardware blocks.
Table 6-1 describes the system architecture and supported interfaces on the LP
MDU, MDU, and the modular ONTs.
Table 6-1 ONT system architecture and supported interfaces
The following sections in this chapter describe the functional blocks for ONTs based
on system architecture and supported interfaces.
6.2 LP MDU ONT functional blocks
The LP MDU ONT is based on a hybrid architecture consisting of a motherboard and
a service board. The motherboard contains all optical, power, and common circuitry
required to support the service board. The service board provides the connections to
the customer interfaces. For the VDSL2 LP MDU ONT, communication between the
motherboard and service board is performed using a DB connector while, for the GE
LP MDU ONT, a SU connector is used. The motherboard and the service board are
integrated into the LP MDU ONT and cannot be removed.
There are two variants of the LP MDU ONT motherboard, one for the VSDL LP
MDU ONT (O-24121V-A and O-24120V-A) and the GE LP MDU ONT
(O-24121G-A and O-24120G-A). For the GE LP MDU ONT, the VDSL2 circuits
along with the associated splitter design of the VDSL LP MDU ONT has been
removed. The FPGAs move from the motherboard to the service board and are
updated to support 12 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet interfaces.
