Table 6-12 describes the OBC functions.
Table 6-12 OBC functions
Complex programmable logic device
The MDU ONT uses the CPLD to decode the address of the control bus interface and
for chip select generation. The CPLD can also be used to provide network timing
referencing (NTR) for Ethernet UNI interfaces.
6.4 Modular ONT and plug-in unit functional blocks
The modular ONT consists of a PON motherboard and a maximum of three plug-in
service units. The modular ONT offers the following functional blocks:
Figure 6-5 shows the functional blocks of the modular ONT.
Local bus Used to connect to the MDU ONT subsystems for control,
provisioning, and status monitoring activities
Craft port (if enabled) Used by service personnel to access the MDU ONT for administration
and maintenance purposes
Function Description
MDU ONT testing Can initialize and perform a self-test of the MDU ONT
DHCP Allows the MDU ONT subsystems to obtain their configurations, such
as IP addresses when they start up
IGMP snooping Monitors IGMP message flows to maintain a local multicast filter and
forwarding database
VDSL2 management Supports the VDSL2 management function
Ping and trace route Supports the ping and trace route function
802.1x authentication Supports 802.1x authentication
