10 — ONT technical specifications
Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU ONT R04.05.06 July 2008 10-11
3FE 51892 AAAA TCZZA Edition 01 ONT Product Information Manual
During operation in the supported temperature range, condensation inside the ONT
caused by humidity is not an issue. To avoid condensation caused by rapid changes
in temperature and humidity, Alcatel-Lucent recommends the following:
When transitioning the packaged unit from one environmental condition to
another, let the unit remain in the sealed packaging until it has stabilized to the
new environment. This avoids the unit forming internal condensation.
If the door of the ONT must be opened after a rapid change in temperature or
humidity, use a dry cloth to wipe down the metal interior to prevent the risk of
condensation.
When high humidity is present, installation of a cover or tent over the ONT helps
prevent condensation when the door is opened.
Environmental considerations for rack installed ONTs
The following rack installation guidelines should be considered before installing a
rack mounted ONT such as the LP MDU or the modular ONT.
Elevated operating ambient - If the ONT is installed in a closed or multi-unit rack
assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be
greater than room ambient. Consideration should be given to installing the ONT
in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma)
specified for the ONT.
Reduced air flow - Installation of the ONT in a rack should be such that the
amount of air flow required for safe operation of the ONT is not compromised.
Mechanical loading - Mounting of the ONT in the rack should be accomplished
to avoid a hazardous condition due to uneven mechanical loading.
Circuit overloading - Consider the connection of the ONT to the supply circuit
and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent
protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of ONT nameplate
ratings should be used when addressing this concern.
Reliable earthing - Reliable earthing of rack-mounted ONTs should be
maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than
direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g. use of power strips).
10.4 Ethernet interface specifications
The Ethernet interface supports the following specifications:
Ethernet ports are IEEE 802.3 compliant
IEEE 802.1Q, 802.1x port-based authentication, and 802.1p (QoS classification
per Ethernet port support
Layer 3 DSCP to 802.1p mapping to allow L3 CoS over the Layer 2 network
RJ-45 connectors
supports full or half duplex operations
supports auto-negotiation or manual setting by operator
supports 10/100 BaseT or 10/100/1000 BaseT (depending on the ONT type)
