35.1 Identification

35.2 Features and application notes
The APC UPS for the modular ONT provides:
• 150 W 48 V dc UPS for the modular ONT located at a multi-dwelling residence,
such as a condominium or apartment building
• 150 VA, 150 W output using universal input voltage range of 87 V ac to 264 V ac
input power
• broadband gel cell type battery (P/N 1AF 05327 AAAA)
• extended backup battery run time
• battery diagnostics, self-testing, and communication capability by alarm output to
the service provider network using the customer premises electronics
• battery life of 5 to 10 years
• UL 1950, IEC 60950, EN60950, FCC Part 15, EN55022 (CISPR 22) Class B
compliance
• easy replacement of the battery by a craft person while the unit is powered
35.3 General description
The APC UPS is mounted either inside or outside a customer premises. It provides
backup battery power for lifeline POTS service in the modular ONT, depending on
environmental conditions and load. It converts 87 V ac to 264 V ac input (50/60 Hz)
to 46 V dc to 52 V dc (150 W) output and serves as a temporary backup in case of
power loss.
Alarm outputs are available on the UPS to monitor the operational status of the
backup battery. The UPS indicates its status to the craft person with LEDs and to the
modular ONT by a signal return connection. The modular ONT can communicate the
UPS status upstream to the P-OLT.
