4.3.8 Washing the Optical Unit Cell
Wash the optical unit cell every year or every 12000 measurements, whichever comes first. Inaccurate measurement
results may be obtained if the optical unit cell is dirty.
Prepare: Cell washing kit (sold separately: cell washing set, syringe set and tube set),
washing solution (sodium hypochlorite solution, approximately 0.75%)*,
sealing screws (that was attached to the column when taken from its package, ×2),
beaker, tissue paper, timer and protective gloves
* If you are using commercially available washing solution, do not use the one which contains surfactants.
Attaching the cell washing set to the instrument
1 Fill the cell washing set with washing solution.
a Add more than 4 mL of washing solution (sodium hypochlorite solution) to a beaker.
b Loosen the sealing screws on both ends of the cell washing set by
hand, and remove them.
Wear protective gloves to prevent exposure to pathogenic microbes.
Discard used cell washing kit, cleaning tools and protective gloves in accordance with local
regulations for biohazardous waste.
This operation requires sodium hypochlorite solution (household bleach). When handling
this solution, wear protective gloves to prevent direct contact.
Be careful to avoid contact between skin, eyes or mouth and sodium hypochlorite solution. If
the sodium hypochlorite solution makes contact with eyes or mouth, immediately wash with
plenty of water and consult a doctor. If it makes contact with skin, wash with plenty of water.
Do not mix household bleach with acid washing solution, ammonia or alcohol.
NOTE:
Perform this operation right before washing the cell. Do not leave the washing solution filled to prevent
leakage.
