2.4 Measurement Mode Selection
(Variant or Fast)
On the standby screen, check that the instrument is in the
measurement mode you want. If you want to change the measurement
mode, see “ To change the measurement mode (Variant or Fast):”
below.
Variant mode (Default)
In addition to measuring HbA1c and HbF, the instrument can separate variant Hb (HbS and HbC) and detect HbE and
HbD in the Variant mode. (When HbE or HbD are detected, the HbA1c values should be considered as an estimated
value because HbE and HbD are not completely separated.) The separation of HbS and/or HbC is printed on
measurement result reports. If HbE or HbD is detected, an abnormal result message will appear.
Fast mode
If variant Hb separation and HbE and HbD detection are unnecessary, setting the Fast mode shortens measurement
time. If the measured sample contains variant Hb such as HbS or HbC, the HbA1c value may be lower than the actual
value.
To change the measurement mode (Variant or Fast):
This section describes how to change the measurement mode on the standby screen.
a On the standby screen, touch the [Meas. mode].
b Touch the desired measurement mode.
c On the standby screen, check that the measurement mode has
been changed.

REFERENCE:
All measurements (normal, STAT, HbA1c control and HbA1c calibration) can be performed in both the Variant
and Fast modes.
All sample racks can be used in both the Variant and Fast modes.
REFERENCE:
The measurement mode can also be specified separately for each sample rack or port, as well as by
instructions from the host computer. For the sample rack settings, contact your distributor.
The measurement mode specified in the sample rack settings or instructed by the host computer has a higher
priority than the selection on the standby screen.
