SIP User's Manual 168 Document #: LTRT-83310
Mediant 600 & Mediant 1000
Notes:
• If the device is installed with all three MPM modules, no other telephony
interface module can be installed in the device.
• It is recommended not to install an MPM module in Sot #6 as this
reduces the available channels for transcoding to 20 (instead of 40).
• TRUNKS (PRI) Modules: DSP resources can be obtained from installed
TRUNKS modules. In other words, some trunk span interfaces are "disabled".
Note: DSP resources cannot be "borrowed" from span interfaces that use CAS.
• Combination of MPM and PRI Modules: DSP resources can be obtained from
the MPM and TRUNKS modules (i.e., some span interfaces are "disabled"). For
example, to achieve 120 channels (with conferencing), you need to use two MPM
modules (installed in slots #5 and #6) and one TRUNKS module providing two
PRI spans (installed in Slot #1).
Software Configuration: The device must be configured as follows:
• Set the Enable IP2IPApplication parameter to 1. This setting enables the IP-to-IP
application, if required.
• Set the MediaChannels parameter to the maximum number of required IP media
channels, regardless of the module from where the channels are obtained.
Note: Setting the M
ediaChannels parameter to a value that is greater than the
available DSP resources from the MPM module(s) can result in the "stealing"
of DSP resources from the B-channels of the PRI spans.
• Set the IPmediaChannels parameter to the number of DSP channels that you
want to “borrow” (use) from each TRUNKS module for the IP-to-IP application.
The setting below shows an example of borrowing DSP channels from TRUNKS
modules #1 and #2:
[IPMediaChannels]
FORMAT IPMediaChannels_Index = IPMediaChannels_ModuleID,
IPMediaChannels_DSPChannelsReserved;
IPMediaChannels 1 = 1, 15;
IPMediaChannels 2 = 2, 10;
[\IPMediaChannels]
Notes:
• To borrow DSP channels from the TRUNKS modules, you must also set
the EnableIPMediaChannels parameter to 1.
• The value of IPMediaChannels_DSPChannelsReserved must be in
multiples of 5.
• By default, the MPM module is set to the maximum number of IP media
channels. Therefore, there is no need to define it with the
IPmediaChannels parameter.
• By default, a TRUNKS module is set to 0 (i.e., no IP media channels).
