System Overview 25
SYSTEM SIGNALS
The signals used in the Sync scoring system can be divided into 2 types; Communication / Control and
Video.
Communication/Control
Communication between components in the Sync system is handled using either an Ethernet network or
a serial communication.
Ethernet provides communication between the control desk computer(s), the Sync consoles, the Display
Controllers and the Peripheral Controller boxes. Refer to the gures titled Sync Ethernet Cabling.
Serial communication allows a Peripheral Controller to communicate with components within the
lane pair. It is equipped with an RS-232 port to allow it to talk to Vector Keypads and RS-485 serial
communication ports to allow it to “talk” GS pinsetters and Brunswick Automated Bumpers.
The Display Controllers use RS-232 to turn the overhead monitors on/off and to switch video inputs.
Refer to the gure titled Sync Lane Pair Communication Cabling.
