2.4.4 Transfer
As the paper travels between the BTR and the drum surface, the Bias
Transfer Roll (BTR) applies a positive char
e to the back of the printin
paper. This positive char
e
from the drum surface to the top surface of the paper. The toner ima
e
is now on the paper and the paper is now stuck to the drum surface, due
to the relative electrical differences between the ne
e of the inner conductive layer of the drum and the positive
electrical char
e of the paper.

2.4.5 Detack
After the toner ima
e transfers to the surface of the paper, the Detack
Saw (a thin strip of metal that resembles a saw blade) applies a low
volta
e to the back of the paper to neutralize the
positive volta
e that was applied to it by the BTR. Once the positive
volta
e is neutralized, the paper strips releases easily from the drum
surface and continues alon
the paper path to the Fuser.
