V Series Operating Instructions 5 - 7
Module Configuration VPS Synchronization
New Patient
Selecting the New Patient button clears all previous patient data, patient settings contained on the
monitor and the VPS, and all monitor display settings are reset to the departmental defaults.
5.2.3 VPS Synchronization: Same Patient IDs
When the same patient VPS is inserted into the same monitor (no patient mismatch ID present), a VPS
synchronization is still required to ensure that the data is current. Once the VPS is inserted, several
messages display in the System Status (upper portion of display) message area. The Confirmation
Dialog (shown in FIGURE 5-4) also displays prompting for a response. Select the Ok button to
continue.

5.2.4 VPS Synchronization Failures
There are three types of VPS Synchronization failures.
5.2.4.1 Hard Failure
This is the most serious of synchronization failures and indicates that no data is being written to the
VPS. The V 12/V 21 continues to monitor and saves the patient data to the monitors hard drive, but
not to the transferable VPS module. When this failure occurs, a VPS Storage Failure message
displays in the System Status message area. A confirmation dialog also displays with the following
message: Warning: No data is being stored to or retrieved from the VPS. Switch to another VPS
to restore data storage.
5.2.4.2 Export Failure
This synchronization failure indicates that more than 10 seconds of historical data was not saved to
the VPS. To ensure that all patient data is seen, print the historical data from the bedside monitor
before the patient is discharged. When an export failure occurs, a confirmation dialog displays with
the following message: Warning: More than 10 seconds of historical data has not been saved to
the VPS. Please print out all historical data from the bedside monitor prior to discharging
message displays.
5.2.4.3 Import Failure
This is a general confirmation message (shown in FIGURE 5-4) to verify the patient data and settings
before monitoring begins.
