V Series Operating Instructions 9 - 23
ECG – Arrhythmia Arrhythmia Algorithm
9.6.7 ECG Analysis Leads
The monitor uses information from two leads to detect beats and to compute heart rate (HR). These
two leads are referred to as the primary and secondary leads. In addition, information from an
additional lead (analysis lead) is used of to classify the beats (normal, abnormal etc). The user can
select any of the available leads (depending on whether a 3, 5, or 12 lead cable is used) as primary,
secondary or analysis leads.
For best results, the following guidelines should be used:
• The QRS complex should be tall, narrow and preferably either completely above or below the
baseline. If at all possible, avoid selecting a lead where the QRS complex is biphasic.
• The P-waves and T-waves should be small compared to the QRS. They should be less than about
0.2 mV.
To select a lead as primary or secondary lead:
1. Select one of the ECG waveform tiles or the Arrhy tile. The ECG dialog displays.
2. Select the Advanced Arrhy Setup tab (shown in FIGURE 9-24).

3. Select the buttons described in TABLE 9-3 to configure the tab.
