7. Reinstall the steering shaft assembly in the vehicle.
Install the lower portion of the steering shaft onto the
power steering unit. Torque the lower pinch bolt to
specification.
TORQUE
Steering Shaft Pinch Bolt:
25 ft-lb (34 Nm)
8. Install the fasteners that retain the steering column.
Torque fasteners to specification.
TORQUE
Steering Column Asm Fasteners:
40 ft-lb (54 Nm)
9. Install the fastener retaining the upper portion of the
steering wheel tilt shock to the pivot tube. Torque
fastener to specification.
TORQUE
Tilt Shock Bolt:
7 ft-lb (10 Nm)
10.Be sure the front wheels are facing straight forward.
Remove the steering wheel and align as needed.
Apply Loctite
®
271
. Torque the steering wheel nut to
specification.
TORQUE
Steering Wheel Nut:
65 ft-lbs (88 Nm)
11. Install steering wheel and steering wheel fasteners.
Field test steering operation.
TORQUE
Steering Wheel Fasteners:
72 in-lbs (9 Nm)
EPS PRE-POSITIONING / STEERING ANGLE
CENTERING
EPS PRE-POSITION PROCEDURE
The EPS pre-position procedure should be performed if:
The EPS has been removed/replaced
The steering shafts have been disconnected
New steering components have been installed
The SCM is indicating out-of-alignment faults
IMPORTANT
Before continuing, the steering rack and input shafts
must be disconnected from the EPS module.
If necessary, remove the EPS module. If EPS module
has skip-tooth splines, mark locations of the skip-tooth
splines on the module shafts.
EPS module electrical connectors MUST be connected,
and the ignition key “ON”
1. Connect vehicle to Digital Wrench, and select
“Special Tests” menu.
2. Select option 5 from Special Tests menu.
3. Select option 1 at the next menu.
4. Follow instructions in Digital Wrench to properly pre-
position the EPS unit.
EPS STEERING ANGLE CENTERING
The EPS Steering Angle Sensor Centering procedure
should be performed if:
The EPS has been removed/replaced
The EPS is indicating out-of-alignment faults
New steering components have been installed
The SCM is indicating out-of-alignment faults
