2.6.2 Loudness Metering
Evaluating program loudness is a very hot topic in today’s radio and TV
production and broadcasting. By integrating loudness metering as stan-
dard, Studer now has a solution that provides instant loudness monitoring
by integrating suitable metering directly into the console.
In collaboration with RTW Germany (www.rtw.de), a custom RTW TM7
TouchMonitor unit was added the to the Vista 5 M3 digital console. This
meter is internally connected to the desk monitoring. A total of eight sig-
nals are internally wired to the meter : DirOut of CR Monitoring (6 chan-
nels), as well as PFL L and PFL R. These signals are available to the TM7.
The TM7 version manufactured for Studer features several different pre-
sets, such as loudness metering according to ITU (BS1770 and BS1771),
ATSC (A/85) and EBU (R128) recommendations in both stereo and sur-
round. PPM bargraph meters with several different international scales,
moving-coil instrument emulation and audio vectorscope display are
included as well.
A USB interface for connecting a memory device is provided on the TM7
unit inside the desk. It allows licence and preset handling.
