Probable Cause
Cable integrity, optical transceiver.
Recommended Actions
Check other alarms for an indication of a cable failure, a remote-end mux
malfunction, or local-end transceiver failure.

LOS
Loss of Signal (LOS) alarm detected in the regenerator. This is a critical alarm.
Probable Cause
A cable is disconnected or the pier equipment laser is off.
Recommended Actions
Check presence of other alarms to help determine if the problem is cable or
equipment based.
Check remote-end mux/regenerator operation.
Additional Information
Loss of signal is raised when the signal level drops below the threshold at which
a BER of 1 in 10-3 is predicted. Clears when two consecutive framing patterns
are received and no new LOS condition is detected.

Pier equipment malfunction.
