Figure 4.4.6 - Automatic rotating yoke according to ISO 6489-2
When the yoke is connected to a trailing appliance of a trailer or a trailed machine,
kingpin 3 (Figure 4.4.6) of the yoke must be raised and fixed in the upper position. To do this,
handle 2 for raising the kingpin must be raised up. In the process of connection, when the eye
of the trailing appliance of the trailer or trailed machine enters the yoke against the stop, it
pushes retainer 4, and kingpin 3 is automatically lowered and locked.
To indicate the state in which kingpin 3 is locked in the lowered position, there is a spe-
cial indicator 6 in the form of a red or green pin. When kingpin 3 is locked in the lowered posi-
tion, the pin of indicator 6 is slightly pulled out, which is visible from the outside, and can also
be determined by touch.
In order to move kingpin 3 to the lowered position without connecting the eye of the
trailing appliance of the trailer or trailed machine, it is necessary to press handle 7 for lowering
the kingpin.
To reposition the yoke in height, it is necessary to turn position changing handle 1 until
side pins 9 of yoke plate 8 come out of the holes in the guides of the tow hitch bracket. Con-
tinuing to hold handle 1 in this position, you should move the yoke up or down to the required
position, aligning the position of side pins 9 with the corresponding holes in the guides of the
tow hitch bracket. After that, release position changing 1 downward and make sure that pins 9
are completely inserted into the holes of the tow hitch bracket and handle 1 has come down to
the stop, having taken a horizontal position. When adjusting the yoke in height, hold the yoke
by its lower part.
CAUTION: WHEN THE KINGPIN IS IN THE UPLIFTED POSITION, AND ALSO WHEN
THE KINGPIN IS BEING LOWERED WITH THE HANDLE AND THE TRAILING APPLIANCE
IS BEING ATTACHED, NO OPERATOR'S OR SOMEONE ELSE’S BODY PARTS MUST
STAY INSIDE THE YOKE GAP! KINGPIN ACTUATION OCCURS WITH GREAT POWER
AND SPEED!
ATTENTION: TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE RELATIVE CALCULATED VALUE OF
AXIAL FORCES (D) PERMISSIBLE FOR THIS ELEMENT, THE MASS OF THE TRAILER,
THE SEMI-TRAILER OR THE MACHINE TO BE ATTACHED TO THE TRAILER’S ROTAT-
ING YOKE SHALL NOT EXCEED 12 TONS!
