6.14 Possible engine failures and instructions for troubleshooting
The list of possible failures of the D-243 S2 engine and instructions for troubleshoot-
ing are given in table 6.14.1.

Air in the fuel system
Prime the system with a manual fuel priming pump.
Eliminate air leaks in the fuel system
Fuel pump is faulty
Remove the fuel pump from the engine and send it
to a workshop for repair
Fuel filters are clogged
Wash the coarse fuel filter and replace the car-
tridge of the fine fuel filter
The engine does not develop power
Fuel pump control lever does not
reach the stop
Adjust the fuel pump control rods
Cartridge of the fine fuel filter is
clogged
Replace the fine fuel filter cartridge
Injectors are faulty
Identify faulty injectors, wash and adjust
Fuel injection advance angle is set
incorrectly
Set the recommended fuel injection advance angle
Engine air cleaner is clogged
Carry out air cleaner maintenance
Fuel pump is faulty
Remove the fuel pump from the engine and send it
to a workshop for repair
The engine smokes in all operating modes with black smoke coming out of
the exhaust pipe
Engine air cleaner is clogged
Carry out air cleaner maintenance
Atomizer needle of the injector is
stuck
Identify the faulty injector, wash or replace the at-
omizer, adjust the injector
Fuel pump is faulty
Remove the fuel pump from the engine and send it
to a workshop for repair
The engine smokes in all operating modes with white smoke coming out of
the exhaust pipe
Engine is running under overcool-
ing
Warm up the engine, during operation maintain the
temperature of the coolant within 85-100 C°
Water ingress into fuel
Change fuel
No clearance between valves and
