4.7 Trailer brake actuator
4.7.1 General information
ATTENTION: ALL ADJUSTMENTS OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND THE ACTU-
ATOR OF TRAILER BRAKES AS WELL AS FAULTS ELIMINATION SHALL BE CARRIED
OUT WITH THE ENGINE STOPPED AND THE TRACTOR STAYING IN A HORIZONTAL
POSITION AND SECURED BY STOP BLOCKS PUT AGAINST THE WHEELS AND
PREVENTING THE TRACTOR FROM SELF-MOVEMENT!
Tractors BELARUS-82.3 tractor is equipped with a single line pneumatic actuator
providing control of the brakes of trailers and agricultural machines, that are equipped with
a single-line pneumatic brake actuator, as well as tire inflation. The layout of the compo-
nents of the single-line pneumatic actuator of trailer brakes is shown in figure 4.7.1.
1 - emergency air pressure sensor; 2 - warning lamp of emergency air pressure; 3 -
air pressure indicator; 4 - air pressure sensor; 5 - tank; 6 - condensate removal valve; 7 -
pressure regulator; 8 - compressor; 9 - air bleed valve; 10 - brake valve; 11 - connecting
line; 12 - connecting head.
Figure 4.7.1 - Layout of components of single-line pneumatic actuator of trailer
brakes
Air intake into the tractor pneumatic drive is carried out from the engine intake mani-
fold. In compressor 8 (figure 4.7.1), air is compressed and supplied to tank 5 through pres-
sure regulator 7, which maintains the required pressure in the tank.
When connecting a trailer with a single-line pneumatic actuator, the trailer's con-
necting head is attached to connecting head 12 (black) and air is supplied to the trailer's
pneumatic actuator. When you press the brake pedals or turn on the parking brake, the
compressed air leaves connecting line 11 through brake valve 10 into the atmosphere. On
the trailer, the air distributor is triggered, supplying compressed air from the trailer's tanks
to the brake chambers, and the trailer is braked. In case of emergency disconnection of
the trailer, the connecting heads are disconnected, the air is released from the trailer’s line
into the atmosphere and the trailer is braked automatically.
Direct control of the brakes is carried out due to the pressure drop to 0 MPa in con-
necting line 11 when the tractor is braking. In this case, the supply of compressed air to
the pneumatic system of the trailer is interrupted.
Automatic brake control (automatic braking) is carried out in the event of a rupture
of the hitch and disconnection of the trailer due to a pressure drop in the connecting line of
the trailer.
