7.4 Requirements for long-term tractor storage outdoors
Before putting the tractor for the storage, carry out maintenance services.
Technical maintenance when preparing the tractor for long-term storage includes:
- tractor cleaning and washing;
- dismounting tractor components subject to storage in specially equipped ware-
houses and preparing them for storage;
- sealing of openings (after removing the components), spaces and cavities from in-
gress of moisture and dust;
- preservation of the tractor and its components, restoration of the damaged paint
coating;
- putting tractor on supporting blocks (plates).
After operation the tractor shall be cleaned from dust, mud, oil leaks, vegetation and
other remains. Components where water is not allowed (alternators, relays, etc.), shall be
protected with covers made of paraffined paper or polyethylene film. After the tractor is
cleaned and washed, it shall be blown with compressed air to remove moisture. Damaged
painting shall be restored by putting varnish and paint coating or other protective coating
according to GOST 6572-91.
For long-term outdoor storage, electrical equipment, components made of rubber,
polymer and textile materials (hydraulic circuit hoses, etc.) and tools shall be dismounted,
prepared for storage and sent to a warehouse. Fastening parts for the dismounted tractor
components shall be mounted back in their places. Electrical equipment (headlights, ac-
cumulator battery, etc.) shall be cleaned, blown with compressed air; terminals shall be
coated with protective grease.
When preparing the tractor for long-term storage, carry out internal and outside
preservation procedures for the engine according to the engine operation manual. Grease
all tractor units according to clause 3 of Table 5.8.1 of the present operation manual. Drain
oil and refill fresh oil with the required amount of additives up to the control level into the
housings of the transmission, FDA gear groups, the HLL and HSC oil tank. Run-in the trac-
tor for 10-15 minutes. Put accumulator batteries for long-term storage after conducting a
test-training cycle in accordance with GOST 9590-76. Open joints, screwed and threaded
connections of lift linkage and steering system, splined surfaces of PTO shaft end and
cardan shaft, projecting parts of cylinder and shock absorber rods, front and rear wheel
track adjustment mechanisms shall be preserved. Use caps, polyethylene film sacks or
other special accessories to close tightly the fuel tank filling neck, openings of the engine
breather, transmission, hydraulic systems, the engine exhaust pipe, the inlet pipe of the air
purifier, the respective openings after the starter dismounting, and other cavities, through
which atmospheric precipitation may get inside the tractor assembly units. Set control lev-
ers and pedals to a position excluding spontaneous engagement of tractor units and com-
ponents.
Outdoor storage of unloaded pneumatic tires is allowed on tractors, resting on sup-
ports. Tire surface shall be covered with protective agent. Tire pressure shall be de-
creased down to 70% of the standard during indoor and outdoor storage. You should re-
move mud and oil from the exterior surfaces of the hydraulic system flexible hoses. It is
permitted to keep the hoses on the tractor. In this case they shall be coated with protective
substance or wrapped with insulating material (wax paper, polyethylene film, etc).
Facing, roof, doors and glasses of the cabin shall be covered.
At regular intervals, in cold seasons and in case of long-term storage, it is required to
grease the cylinder mechanism, located in button 2 (figure 2.18.1), of the door lock handle by
injecting the agents of HG 5503 (HG5501, WD-40).
