Bruker Optik GmbH IFS 125M User Manual
Description 4
4.6 Scanner compartment
A short and a long version of the scanner arm are available. The scanner is driven by 2
drive units, i.e. 1 DC (direct current) motor and 1 linear drive unit. These two drive units
are also called the outer and inner scanner.
The outer scanner ensures the continuous movement, while the main function of the
inner scanner is to compensate the fluctuations of the outer scanner. For low resolution
measurement the inner scanner is activated, only.
Based on the laser interference signal, the inner scanner compensates the fluctuations.
To compensate the tilting of the inner scanner this scanner uses a displacement sensor
(digital encoder).
The scanner movement is controlled by the HeNe laser signal. To avoid any malfunc-
tions with regard to mechanical scanner movements make sure that the bearings are
always free of any visible deposits.
