IFS 125M User Manual Bruker Optik GmbH
Specifications A
A.1 Additional information to the resolution specifications
The specified resolution is solely determined by the instrument function (FWHH = full
width at half height). However, the measured line width is a convolution of the instrument
function with the sample line width. The latter may be a function of the Doppler and pres
-
sure broadening of the sample.
Furthermore, the instrument function is limited by the specified resolving power of the
instrument (= ratio of wavenumber by resolution). At wavenumber
the instrument
function will not be smaller than: /specified resolving power.
All specifications apply to the open sample channel. The useful spectral range depends
on source, beamsplitter and detector, limited by the optical component with the smallest
bandwidth.
At both ends of the spectral range the signal-to-noise ratio will decrease; therefore a
measurement with the specified resolution may not be feasible. For high resolution
measurements the use of optical filters is strongly recommended in order to reduce the
photonic shot noise.
The specifications as defined in the acceptance test form will be verified in connection
with the indicated measurement parameters and components. These components (like
gas cells and optical filters) are not part of the instrument and can be rented during the
installation or ordered separately.
