6.8.7 Checking optical alignment
It is important that the laser has been aligned carefully before proceeding with the follow-
ing steps.
1 Put a paper in front of the focussing mirror (as screen for the laser light
which is back-reflected through the aperture).
2 • Select the smallest aperture:
☞ On the OPUS Measure menu select Direct Command Entry.
☞ Enter apt=300.
☞ Click Send Command.
• Dim the lights to optimally see the back-reflected laser spot on the paper.
i The aim of the alignment is to have the back-reflected laser spot passing
through the center of the smallest aperture. This ensures that the aper-
ture is exactly on the optical axis of the interferometer.
