8.8.6.4 SonoCNS
Note SonoCNS is an option.
Note SonoCNS is available for 3D pre, 3D or 4D write or with a reload of a 3D/4D dataset.
Switching to another tool or visualization type deletes all SonoCNS alignments and
measurements.
SonoCNS is a method to examine the fetal Central Nervous System (CNS) based on acquired
3D/4D ultrasound volumes. The tool provides the user with a view of the TV (Transventricular),
TC (Transcerebellar), TT (Transthalamic) and MS (Mid-sagittal) plane. The required volume
can be newly acquired, re-loaded from the archive, or extracted from a 4D cine.
If no MSP or TTP is found by the SonoCNS algorythm, Expanded to accept a TTP and TVP
plane.

All controls are the same as in 3D/4D mode. Therefore only the SonoCNS relevant controls
are described here:
Start Alignment Press Start Alignment to start the SonoCNS alignment. While SonoCNS is
calculating, a progress indicator appears.
Plane selection Select the desired plane (TC, TT or TV).
Start Measurements Press Start Measurements to start the SonoCNS measurements.
Edit Measurement Select the desired measurements (CM, BPD, HC,...) for editing.
Add to Report Press Add to Report to transfer the measurements to the worksheet.
Manual Alignment Select Manual Alignment to return to do a new manual alignment. All
measurements are cleared.
Init Select Init to return to SonoCNS Start Alignment state. All measurements are
cleared.
Using SonoCNS
Before SonoCNS is used, a volume dataset of the fetal head near the TT or TV plane has to
be prepared.
1.
Select SonoCNS either in 3Dpre, 3D or 4D write mode and press Start alignment . The
tool automatically extracts and displays 4 planes (TTP, TCP, TVP, MSP).
2. Press Start Measurements to start the measurement process.
3. Decide whether to accept the displayed alignment and to transfer it to the worksheet by
pressing Add to Report or to do a Manual Alignment if the result is not as desired.
Measurement buttons
The measurement buttons are displayed according to the measurements:

gray background: No measurement was found, a manual measurement is needed.
