Battery Inspection
The battery should be inspected at periodic intervals to ensure proper engine starting capability.
IMPORTANT: Read the safety and maintenance instructions which accompany your battery.
1. Turn off the engine before servicing the battery.
2. Ensure the battery is secure against movement.
3. Battery cable terminals should be clean, tight, and correctly installed. Positive to positive and negative to negative.
4. Ensure the battery is equipped with a nonconductive shield to prevent accidental shorting of battery terminals.

WARNING
Failure to properly secure the battery leads can result in a loss of power to the Digital Throttle and Shift (DTS) system, leading
to serious injury or death due to loss of boat control. Secure the battery leads to the battery posts with hex nuts to avoid loose
connections.
Do not use deep‑cycle batteries. Engines must use a marine starting battery with 1000 MCA, 800 CCA, or 180 Ah.
When connecting the engine battery, hex nuts must be used to secure battery leads to battery posts. Torque nuts to
specification.

IMPORTANT: Battery cable size and length is critical. Refer to engine installation manual for size requirements.
The decal needs to be placed on or near the battery box for future service reference. One 5/16 in. and one 3/8 in. hex nut is
supplied per battery for wing nut replacement. Metric hex nuts are not supplied.
NOTICE - DTS & OptiMax Engines
DO NOT USE DEEP CYCLE BATTERIES!
DTS (Digital Throttle and Shift) applications and
OptiMax engines must use a marine starting

Spark Plug Inspection and Replacement
!
WARNING
Damaged spark plug boots may emit sparks which can ignite fuel vapors under the engine cowl, resulting in serious injury or
death from a fire or explosion. To avoid damaging the spark plug boots, do not use any sharp object or metal tool to remove the
spark plug boots.
1. Loosen the hoses from the expansion chamber. Remove the six nuts that secures the expansion chamber. Remove the
expansion chamber.
