Cruise Control Switch Testing
NOTE:
Switch terminals are identified on the
terminal end of the switch. Numbers I and 4
do not have terminals and are blank.
1. Using an ohmmeter touch one ohmmeter
test probe to terminal 2 of the cruise
control switch.
Touch the other ohmmeter probe to
terminal 3.
2. Press the cruise control switch from the
"OFF" position and hold the switch to
the "SET" position.
Observe the ohmmeter. The ohmmeter
should show little or no resistance
indicating continuity.
If there is no continuity, the switch is
defective and needs replaced.
3. Touch one ohmmeter test probe to
terminals 5 and the other probe to
terminal 6.
4. Press the cruise control switch from the
"SET" position and hold the switch to
the "SET" position.
Observe the ohmmeter. The ohmmeter
should show little or no resistance
indicating continuity.
If there is no continuity, the switch is
defective and needs replaced.
5. Continue to hold ohmmeter test probes
to terminal 2 and 3 of the switch and let
the switch rocker from the "SET"
position to the "ON" position. Observe
the ohmmeter. The ohmmeter should
show little or no resistance indicating
continuity.
If there is no continuity, the switch is
defective and needs replaced.
NOTE:
The cruise control switch indicator light is
not serviceable and cannot be replaced. If
the light is defective, the cruise control
switch must be replaced.
6. To test the internal light bulb for the
switch, touch an ohmmeter test probe to
terminal 7 and the other ohmmeter test
probe to terminal 8 of the cruise control
switch. Observe the ohmmeter. The
ohmmeter should show between 18 and
22 ohms of resistance. If the resistance
is not within specifications, the switch
light is defective and the switch needs
replaced.
