7) DIODE FOR BRAKE SWITCH
Description
The diode, 1, is in the dashboard of the
tractor, attached to the tractor wiring
harness.
Diode is electrical devices which current is
allowed to pass in one direction, directing
current within a circuit. Diodes allow the
use of one wire within multiple circuits to
control current flow to electrical
components such as relays.
This diode is paired together in a single
case.
The remaining diode is housed alone.
Diode Testing
1. Disconnect the negative ( - ) battery
cable from the battery.
2. Remove the dashboards from the tractor.
3. Disconnect the diode from the wiring
harness of the tractor.
NOTE:
For this test, an electrical multimeter with
diode test capabilities may be used in place
of an ohmmeter. If a multimeter with diode
testing capabilities is unavailable, use an
ohmmeter to test as described below.
4. Using an ohmmeter, touch the red,
positive (+), test probe to diode
terminal "A". Touch the black, negative
( - ), ohmmeter test probe to diode
terminal "B". Observe the ohmmeter.
5. The ohmmeter should show high
resistance, indicating no continuity and
that current is not flowing through the
diode in that direction. If there is
continuity. Check to see that the test
probes are on the correct terminals, and
if they are, the diode is defective and
needs replaced.
6. If the previous test indicated the diode
was functioning properly, touch the red,
positive (+), ohm meter test probe to
terminal "B" of the diode and the black,
negative (- ), test probe to terminal
"A" of the diode.
7. Observe the ohmmeter. The ohmmeter
should show little or no resistance,
indicating continuity in that direction.
If the ohmmeter does not show
continuity, the diode is defective and
needs replaced.
