22) CRUISE CONTROL MAGNET
(HST Model only)
Description and Location
The cruise control magnet, 1, is located
under the left tractor in the dash board and
is attached to the hydrostatic transmission
(HST) linkage. The cruise control magnet
is a simple electromagnet. When the cruise
control switch is activated, current is
supplied to the cruise control magnet and
the magnet locks the HST control linkage
in place. This maintains a constant
transmission speed, which translates to a
constant tractor ground speed, forward.
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable
from the battery.
2. Pull up instrument panel and remove the
left dashboard.
3. Disconnect the main wiring harness
connector, from the cruise control
magnet.
4. Remove the two bolts,2, which secures
the cruise control magnet mounting
bracket,3, to the steering column.
Remove the magnet from the tractor.
Cruise Control Magnet Testing
1. Using an ohmmeter, connect test leads to
each terminal on the cruise control
magnet connector, 1.
2. Observe the ohmmeter. The ohmmeter
should, indicate a resistance of 11 - 12
ohms. If the resistance of the magnet is
not as specified, the magnet is defective
and needs replaced.
3. Use jumper wires to connect a 12-volt
power supply to the terminals on the
cruise control magnet connector, 1.
4. The cruise control magnet, 2, should
become magnetic and attract any ferrous
object. If the cruise control magnet does
not attract any ferrous objects, the
magnet is defective and needs replaced.
Installation
Assembly of the cruise control magnet
generally follows the disassembly in reverse.
