Commercial Operating System Chapter 10
Initial Startup Procedure
The first time that you start the COS, it is in the factory default state. You must
complete the tasks during the startup procedure, for example, setting a
password, the first time you turn on power to the controller.
Controller Reset Causes COS Reset
The CompactLogix 5480 controller is an industrial controller that hosts the
COS. When the controller resets, power is cycled to the controller, and the
COS resets. For example, if you update the firmware revision, the controller
resets.
You can change the state of the COS and not affect the state of the Logix
control engine in the controller. You can reset or shut down the COS and the
Logix control engine continues to operate as before the COS reset.
Memory Dedicated to Windows-based Activities
We recommend that you consider the memory limits before you begin using
the COS. For example, application code development can burden the COS
memory resources in a manner that can impact COS performance.
It can be more effective to develop code on an external workstation and
perform maintenance or troubleshooting activities on the COS so available
controller resources are best used.
