Chapter 1 CompactLogix 5480 System
Differences in Controller Operation with UPS Connected or Not Connected
The CompactLogix 5480 controller operates differently whether a UPS is
connected or not.
• If a UPS is connected to the controller and the source of MOD power is
lost, the following occur:
– The current state of the project is saved.
– An orderly shutdown occurs on the controller and on the COS.
• If a UPS is not connected to the controller and the source of MOD
power is lost, the following occur:
– The current state of the project is lost.
– Neither the controller nor the COS is shut down in an orderly
manner.
Secure Digital (SD) Card
An SD card ships with the CompactLogix 5480 controller. It is installed in the
controller behind the door on the front of the controller.
You can use an SD card in a CompactLogix 5480 controller to store Logix
Designer application projects and load projects on to the controller.

controller, see Chapter 4,
Use the Secure Digital Card on page 101.
IMPORTANT You can use an SD card to store a back-up of a Logix Designer
application project. The state of the project on an SD card represents
the project state when it was stored on the SD card.
The project on the SD card does not represent the state of the
project when MOD power was lost.
The project on the SD card is older than the state of the project
when MOD power was lost.
