Chapter 10 Commercial Operating System
Soft Reset of COS
A soft reset of the COS is the same as restarting a computer via the Start menu.
The difference is that to execute a soft reset of the COS, you use the controller
reset button as described in
Use the Reset Button with the COS on page 218.
Before you execute a soft reset, we recommend that you save unsaved data and
close all open applications on the COS.
Hard Reset of COS
A hard reset of the COS is the same as performing a hard restart of a computer
by holding the power button down. The difference is that to execute a hard
reset of the COS, you use the controller reset button as described in
Use the
Reset Button with the COS on page 218.
If possible, before you execute a hard reset, we recommend that you save
unsaved data and close all open applications on the COS.
Security Settings on the COS
The COS on the CompactLogix 5480 controller is configured per the
Microsoft Security Baseline for Windows 10 v1607 with three exceptions that
are described at
Inactivity Lock and Screen Saver Settings on page 226.
For detailed information on Microsoft Security Baseline for Windows 10
v1607, see:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/device-security/
windows-security-baselines.
Remember the following as you read this section:
• The security setting descriptions provide information that is considered
to be of particular importance regarding how you use the COS.
However, the descriptions are not exhaustive descriptions. For complete
descriptions, see the Microsoft Security Baseline referenced previously.
• If you change the COS default security settings from the out-of-box
conditions, you assume responsibility for any potential issues that arise
as a result of the changes.
