Chapter 3 Start to Use the Controller
To perform a Stage 2 reset, complete the following steps.
1. Confirm that the controller does not contain a user application.
2. Power down the controller.
3. Open the front door on the controller.
4. Remove the SD card.
5. Use a small tool with a diameter of a paper clip to press and hold the
reset button.
6. While holding in the reset button, power up the controller.
7. Continue to hold the reset button while the 4-character display cycles
through DFLT, 4, 3, 2, 1, Factory Default
8. After Factory Default appears, release the reset button.
9. On your workstation, delete the files on the SD card.
10. Power down the controller.
11. Reinstall the SD card.
12. Powerup the controller.
13. Verify that the controller is at firmware revision 1.xxx, and the controller
is set to DHCP-enabled.
After a Stage 2 reset is performed, you must complete the following tasks to use
the controller again:
• Configure the Ethernet ports, including setting the desired EtherNet/IP
mode, and then setting the controller IP address configuration.

Power is automatically cycled on the controller as part of the firmware
update process. After the power-up completes, the COS starts
automatically.
IMPORTANT If you have open applications that are running on the COS, we recommend
that you save any opened files before you begin this process.
When you remove power from the controller, the COS shuts down and any
unsaved data is lost. The lost data cannot be recovered.
