– Loosen lock nut -2-. Counterhold at the tie rod hex head -1-.
– Loosen nut of track rod ball joint, but do not unscrew yet.
– Press the tie rod end off the wheel bearing housing with the
Puller - Ball Joint - 3287A- .
– Remove the nut -4-, disengage the tie rod and remove the tie
rod end -3-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Identification on the tie rod end.
Tightening specifications, refer to
⇒ “3.1 Steering Gear Overview”, page 292 .
– Install the tie rod end -3- on the tie rod -1- as far as the stop
on the lock washer -2-.
– Align the tie rod end -3- so the tie rod ball joint pins are in the
installation location.
– Insert tie rod end -3- in the wheel bearing housing as far as
the stop.
– Tighten the lock nut -2- and nut -4-.
– Install wheel.
– An axle alignment may be required. Refer to
⇒ “5 Wheel Alignment”, page 247 .

♦ Torque Wrench Insert - Open Jaw - VAG1923-
♦ Puller - Ball Joint - T10187-
